According to a publication by unwomen.org in 2012, a study conducted in New Deli showed that 92% of women reported they have suffered some type of sexual violence in public places during their lifetime

88% of women reported having suffered some time of verbal sexual harassment (including unwanted sexual comments, whistles, catcalls, looks, or obscene gestures) during their lifetime.

Together with my partner Carlos Zamorano, we have designed Loop- a ring that includes a panic button to alert your family and friends that you are in danger or have an emergency.

The beginning of the idea

The idea is born after a bad experience was had by someone close to Carlos Zamorano. Mónica didn’t think twice about coming on board with the project to be able to help Colombian women in delicate situations. That is how Be Wear Colombia was created; with the purpose of creating products rich in design that have a great technological contribution for personal security.

How does it work?

This ring uses Bluetooth technology that connects the piece of jewelry with the user’s smart phone, transmitting information through the Loop App. When the panic button is activated, the application will send text messages to five different people chosen by the user containing a link to the Loop website where they will access detailed information about the user including their specific location, and current speed of travel.

Other uses

This ring isn’t exclusively for use in cases of attempted rape or kidnapping, it can also be used in health emergencies and other accidents of any kind.

Was your cell phone stolen on the street? You can also use your ring! If you press the panic button immediately, the people who receive the text message will know the exact position of your cell phone in order to localize it thanks to the GPS that will be activated through the application.

As Mónica Fonseca says, more than a panic button it is a peace of mind button.

How much does a Loop ring cost ?

Loop is available in different models with an approximate cost of $345.000 and $599.000 Colombian pesos. This is the only price you will pay for these gorgeous rings, as the application can be downloaded at no additional cost from the iOS and Android stores. The only extra cost to the users is changing the ring’s batteries after 2 years of use or 40 clicks of the button.
