In this space, multiple problems related to the development of women and girls such as discrimination, gender violence, reproductive rights, poverty traps (child brides, teen pregnancy), and the participation of women in the private and public sector, amongst others are discussed.
Ever year, the forum chooses a specific theme related to Gender and Development. In 2013, the debate centered around the role that women and girls play in the development of a nation. In 2014, it focused on teen pregnancy and the social and economic problematic that it entails. In 2016, the principal theme was Why women matter. And this 2017: Women leading a better future.
Gender violence is one of the most common human rights violations in the world. If we want a society that knows true peace, we must begin by respecting the rights of women and girls.
“Spaces like the Women Working for the World forum become more and more relevant in our present every day. True social and gender equality will become a reality when all of us feel part of this debate,” Catalina Escobar, President of de Juan Fe Foundation.
