Inspirations "Inspiraciones Outlook", , given out by the Outlook radio program of the World Service of the BBC for its 50th anniversary.

Natalia was chosen out of 50 public figures from around the world whose stories have been distinguished by the program for being inspiring and a display of great courage. She is the only Latin American amongst the honored.

In an interview with the BBC, the Colombian survivor emphasized that “It’s crucial to keep moving forward and to continue fighting; they’re like supports, impulses, displays of a great love.”

Beyond getting over an attack with acid, Natalia and her Foundation have seen the frequency and effect that these types of attacks have on the Colombian population. As a result of her campaign, the Natalia Ponce Law was passed in January of 2016, a law in which attacks with acid or other chemical agents are deemed as autonomous crimes, penalties are elevated and probation is denied to the aggressors. Among the great merits of this achievement is having avoided the filing of this initiative on two occasions.

However, the commitment of the Natalia Ponce de León Foundation and its President doesn’t end there. They will form part of a team delegated by the Ministry of Health to formulate the guidelines for a public policy that favors the victims of acid and chemical agent attacks. This will not only detail the administrative procedures and health care in these cases, but will also be in charge of making sure the current regulations that establish the rights of healthcare for the victims are upheld in an effective manner and that victims will not face barriers in order to access their rightful care, as often happens today.

The recognition that the BBC London gave to Natalia Ponce de León is one more reason to continue with the task of guaranteeing adequate and opportune attention to the victims of acid and chemical agent attacks, for safeguarding their integral recovery and punishing those responsible for these crimes.
